Caring Choices Emergency Food Closet
Our program feeds those in need
Our food closet serves residents in several geographic areas including Butte, Glenn, Tehama, Shasta, Trinity, Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties. We receive cash and food donations from Caring Choice volunteers, faith based organizations, community organizations, and community garden projects. In addition, the food closet is stocked through grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding for Butte, Yuba, Sutter, and Glenn counties. The wide range of donors and funding allows us to not only offer non-perishable food items but some fresh fruits and vegetables as well.

One of our volunteers just recently brought in a gigantic box of hand picked local kiwis which were well received! Food items are made available to seniors and disabled persons who are who are transitioning back into independent living residences from health care facilities as well as our HIV/AIDS support group members. In some cases, our nurses and social workers will drop off the food bags when making house visits to their clients.

Food Assistance
Caring Choices will assist individuals by providing food directly from our food closet, as well as helping people apply for Food Stamps.
The Cal Fresh Program, formerly known as Food Stamps and federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), can add to your food budget to put healthy and nutritious food on the table. The program issues monthly electronic benefits that can be used to buy most foods at many markets and food stores.

The Cal Fresh Program helps to improve the health and well-being of qualified households and individuals by providing them a means to meet their nutritional needs.

Food Stamps
“Making America Stronger” commemorates the 30th anniversary of the reforms achieved by the Food Stamp Act of 1977 by telling the story of how food stamps dramatically reduced the extent of severe hunger in our country, how they continue to help Americans in need, and how this essential program can achieve still more.
